HI!HAMLET
year 1 term 3
summer term
20th-27th April:
We're back in school! Over the holidays I had a huge reaction to the vaccine, so I spent almost most of the holidays at home resting. When I was well I went out on a picnic with my friends, which was great fun. New design projects and sewing projects have started. This time we are making a whole sketchbook for Tartuffe, this is the first one we have made, I have bought the book and have a schedule ready to start researching. For the sewing project we are making a corset for Nancy from Oliver Twist.
28th April-5th May:
Work on my artwork proposal started this week with the purchase of the right materials and I started working on trials and drafts with my friend. I have also started the design brief and construction brief and we will soon have a trip to Derby to research. I am very excited because I will soon be meeting my friends in Derby.
6th May-13th:
This week I designed Nancy's top based on the results of my research. I used fabrics that I had purchased at vintage shops. Nancy is a plain and ordinary girl, but she has her own story and way of dealing with things. For her work I designed the neckline large so that she could pull up her cuffs. We went to Derby and I loved the museum and the exquisite old objects, and I learned that Derby used to produce very good aircraft engines. You really can't tell! After all, Derby now looks more like an industrial city compared to Nottingham. I met my friends and in the evening we watched a black ballet performance together. It was exciting and tiring, but travelling and visiting museums is always great fun. The design project is steadily progressing, but I think I need to pick up the pace. Hopefully I will finish the term sooner rather than later.
14th-21th May:
We also went on a tour of Nottingham Castle, which I loved and did a lot of sketching, and Helen told me that Nottingham is actually built on top of sandstone, so we have a lot of caves here. I went to the underground areas that she recommended for me to wander around. Very interesting! We also saw the Dream's Girls play. The live show was even more stunning than watching it on line, I think I need to see a few musicals live while I'm on summer break! The top was very tiring to make, the fabric I bought was great to sew but I got the front and back wrong where it should have been sewn, big mistake ...... I put all the photos from our visits to Derby and Nottingham Castle in my Sketchbook which was very helpful!
22th-28th May:
I did a lot of design work and sewing this week, I still spent too much time on pre research, it was intense but I managed to finish all the projects, I loved the tartuffe characters I designed and drew Line up for them, we learnt how to make patterns in sewing class which made the bodice I made look more in line with my design. I finished my artwork design! It was about scrappy culture and I wanted to show both sides of the robot. It's a week of tidying up, the summer holidays are about to start and I can't wait, I still have reading duties on holiday, go for it!
